Project brief: Type communicates in many ways. The most obvious way is by literally spelling out a word. However this is only the beginning of the power of typography. It can also communicate through placement, size, color, shape, font, layout, weight and so on. For this assignment you will choose a book and redesign it’s cover. You will create the letters that form the title from non-traditional materials. This invented typography should communicate something about your book to the viewer through it’s choice of materials. You should consider the work of Stephan Sagaimiester and Gail Anderson as you create your own typography from found images or objects. Consider how the materials, placement and overall look relate to your communication message.
